School Journey – Day 3

We were joined by some visitors for day 3’s activities with the children who stayed behind at Brecknock coming down for the day with Henry, Rachel and Jo. They picked the perfect day to arrive with some very exciting activities – the tyre course and low rope course in the morning, while the groups who had done these yesterday went model making. These were followed by rock climbing, abseiling and high ropes for everyone after lunch.

There was some fantastic teamwork on display with the groups doing the tyre course and the low rope course. Both groups made it round the tyre course without falling in the pond – but Monica’s group decided at the end they wanted to go in anyway and, prompted by Jasmine, decided to just jump in! They got very wet, but loved every minute of it.

Meanwhile, on the low rope course, Don’s group were busy setting a new record at balancing a whole team on the tightrope without holding on – 12 seconds!

The afternoon was fantastic with everyone encouraging each other to face their fears and climb as high as the could. not everyone made it to the top, but everyone gave it 100%. Ella, Monica, Don and John were very proud of them all.

A special mention must go to Shelley for persevering and determination on the climbing wall. She tried so hard her arms were shaking by the time she came down from the sheer effort. Also to Dion and Lydia, who coming down from the high wire decided to try the backwards, upside down technique and hung off the log about 10 metres in the air upside down!

At dinner time we received an unexpected visit from Sue and Tiggy who joined everyone for some songs and scary stories round the campfire. John and Don struggled valiantly with the damp wood and it paid off with a roaring blaze on a clear star filled night.

Then is was story and hot chocolate before bed. The end of another fabulous day at Margaret McMillan House.
