School Journey 2015 – Day 2

The children were up bright and breezy this morning for showers before down to a hearty breakfast of cereal, bacon, beans, toast and tea! That set us up well for another fun filled day. In the morning we were out in the field for the ‘Hive’ activities. This was a series of puzzles and physical challenges that the children tried to complete in small teams. There was some impressive problem solving on display from the teams with special mentions for Kiarn and his team in the Ski Challenge – the way they worked together to move the large wooden planks was very impressive. Morgan also showed great leadership skills listening to others and providing leadership when needed. Monica’s group of Ruben, Amina, Kellycia, Zakariye, Umar and Jennifer impressed Monica so much that she was heard to exclaim ‘I’ve never seen a group do this so well’ when they zipped across the ‘Peg Traverse’ activity. Don’s group of Mary, Nell, Mehtib, Jamaal, Habib, Phuk and Sara showed great maths skills on both the pyramid challenge and the Magic Square. All in all, some great examples of why the children come on school journey – to learn to work together.

After lunch the children went off in their groups to do two more activities. Rik the instructor, was so impressed with one group on the Zip and the bravery they showed despite being really scared and anxious he used the word ‘outstanding’ to describe Morgan, Sara, Kenza and Suraya. The next group did equally well with Jamaal really pushing himself to get as high up the tree as he could.

John thought Ruben was excellent on the blind line, showing great instructing to keep his partner safe as well as listening when it was his turn to be lead. Tito and Kiarn were impressive and hilarious on the blind line in equal measure with Henry.     We can’t leave out Habib from special mentions who John thinks should be renamed ‘Habib Hood’ and Amina impressed Henry with her accuracy skills with the bow.

Dinner tonight was a huge success with Mehtib exclaiming, ‘This tastes just like my mums!’ which has to be the ultimate compliment to the chef!

Everyone is busy writing letters home before the go and shower before tonights ‘Barn Social’ where we are sure they will all be dancing their socks off!
