Brecknock Book Week: 7th-11th March 2016

We are delighted to inform you that for this year’s ‘Brecknock Book Week’ will be taking place on the week beginning 7th March and is shaping up to be the most extravagant and exciting yet!

Firstly, we have not one but two renowned authors visiting the school!

For Early Years and KS1, we have Jessica Souhami coming in on Wednesday 9th March. Jessica is the author of child-favourites, ‘No Dinner’ (currently being studied by Y1), and the ‘The Leopard’s Drum’, which Reception enjoy linking their activities and setting to. She has agreed to work directly with children across EYFS and KS1, which is very exciting! She will also do book signings straight after school on Wednesday 9th. We are selling Jessica Souhami books at a discounted rate of £5, which is a bargain considering you get to meet the author and get a signed book in the process! There are limited books available though, so we will be using a first come, first served system.

We are also delighted to announce that on Thursday 10th March, we have S.F. Said, the author of ‘Varjak Paw’ and ‘The Phoenix’ visiting. He has agreed to deliver presentations to all KS2 children, including a question and answer sessions afterwards. You can meet S.F. Said at his book signing after school on Thursday 10th. Again the school is offering books at a discounted rate of £5, and again there are limited numbers and we will be using a first come, first served system.

Our Brecknock Book Day will be on Friday 11th March. The theme for this year is ‘Heroes and Villains’. Prizes and books will be awarded to children who write the best stories in class, and dress the best on the day! Although it is fine for younger children to dress up as comic book heroes, we really want all children to make an effort to think outside the box and come as a character from a ‘real’ story e.g. The enormous crocodile, Gandalf/Dumbledore, the fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda, Cinderella, Wicked Witch, Red Riding Hood, the Wolf etc. Children who make their own costumes (with or without parent support), are far more likely to be chosen as winners!

Finally, please keep your eyes peeled on Monday and Tuesday 7th/8th March. We have a feeling something magical is going to happen…
