Trip to Tower Bridge and Monument!

Year 2 had a wonderful day today on their school trip to Tower Bridge and Monument.  We saw many famous buildings in London, including the Shard, Tower of London, the Gherkin, London Eye and St.Paul’s Cathedral again!  One of the highlights was walking along the glass floor on Tower Bridge (see the video on the Year 2 page if you haven’t already)!  We learned many things about the bridge – it was built over a hundred years ago, it took 8 years to build – ten people died during its construction, and that it’s a bascule bridge (from the French word, meaning see-saw)!

After lunch, the children walked on to the Monument, and even walked down Pudding Lane!  We learned about how the fire started, that the Monument was built by Christopher Wren just like St.Paul’s Cathedral!  We also learned that the golden part at the top is the represents fire, and that there are 311 steps to get to the top!

A big thank you to all parents who came along and helped make it such a great trip!  Enjoy the photos and videos!
