Dear Marianne … let Team Cuba blast off to space!

After passing stage one of astronaut training and being accepted onto a mission, the children of Cuba realised there was one person who could stop their childhood dream becoming a reality … Marianne.

This week we have been learning how to use persuasive devices in our writing such as, the power of 3, rhetorical questions, subjective language and emotive language. Marianne came to class to hear the pleas with her own ears and was very much impressed with the use of language, creativity, knowledge of space and oracy skills!

I was extremely proud of how far THE WHOLE class have come in terms of their writing, below are examples of some of the ‘Golden Writing’ from Anna, Hafsa, Zoe, Hayley and Isla – keep it up guys!

Dear Mariannne,

I am Anna, a very thankful pupil who very much admires your work. As you know, the Brecknock society is very curious, that is what creates growth mind sets. Imaginative year five have been investigating space facts, we’ve already done so much including: astronaut training, researched all planets and looked up beyond the stars so were clearly ready. Don’t you want to be a respected head teacher for the rest of your life? I would, wouldn’t you? We would like to explore the unexplored planet Saturn. Watch the ice-cold comets rush past the glossy planet.

Can’t you hear it? Unexplored, magical and youthful, Saturn is just calling out to be explored. You are our rights respecting and dedicated head teacher, who would never crush an ambitious child’s dream. This is my dream do you really want to crush it?! Marianne you are a person I look up to, please don’t change that.

Forget senseless whiteboards; who needs white boards when we can explore. Let’s explore! As my wise teacher once said, “travelling is a very important part of learning!” Furthermore Einstein once smartly stated “Playing around is the best form of research.” If you let us go thousands more people will admire you. We’ll be taking a small step for child and a giant leap for human kind. N.A.S.A has accepted us please do the same? All we need is a simple yes. You are the key to my door of exploration.

My dream is just dangling from reach, I’m clearly being teased. Are you going to let that happen? NO because you are a rights respecting head. As I write I’m spreading contagious giggles of excitement across my body because I know you will make the right decision. Many may ask what the meaning of life is, this is it. Exploring and enjoying every minute of it.

Yours sincerely,

Anna

Dear Marianne,

My name is Hafsa and I am writing this letter to you to ask if Cuba and I could explore space. We are not going just for fun. We would like to go to space so we can pick a planet and see if it has life on it or not. The wonderful yet amazing planet I would like to inspect is planet Jupiter.  Did you know that the most EDUCATIONAL subject is travelling? Therefore, I ask you now can we invest in the amazing wonders of space.  It is simple, just say yes!

Having researched the debatable question of whether human kind should explore space, I KNOW that the wonderful Cuba class are yearning to discover if there are new planets in space. Do remember, it is YOUR duty to help us reach our goal. Well this is mine, do you really want to destroy my goals? In addition, it is our topic. So forget about all of these white boards teaching us about space I actually want to go there!

Marianne, the second we go to space, Cuba class would like to see if there are new inventions in space. That would be amazing wouldn’t it? However, I have not finished, our right respecting head teacher, we all know you are a teacher whose heart is made out of flowers. There is no going back now you have to agree.

As I write this letter to beg for your approval, butterflies flutter around in my “wanting to know the answer” stomach. It would be amazing to transform into the next step of life. Exploring the planets, Mars, Jupiter, Satan, Uranus … all of them! Once we launch out into space a smile would be painted across my face. It would be EPIC to finally accomplish my dream. It really would.

Yours sincerely

Hafsa

Dear Marianne, our rights respecting head teacher,

Sitting in my classroom, I write to ask of only your permission, to venture beyond the walls of Brecknock, on a once in a lifetime opportunity to uncover the mysteries of our small universe. Magical, hidden and not fully discovered-our solar system. My name is Zoe, an ex-ambassador as well as a rights respecting student, therefore I know that article 28 states you have the right to an education. Anyone should be able to allow imaginative, young children to embark on a mission to land on Jupiter! Your goal is to nurture curiosity in Brecknock, so let us be curious!

After researching the amazing, modern inventions we have taken from space, I cannot think of any bad points twinkling Jupiter has! Yes, we would have to be careful when travelling but the yearning Cuba Class would do that anyway, thanks to your nurturing care. How many times a day do you use biro pens? I cannot count how many times I use them. Biros were invented in space, so were freeze-dry meals, cordless, vacuum cleaners and Velcro. If you allow one responsible, bright class to go into space inventions will be falling from the sky like raindrops. In addition, we are from Brecknock, whiteboards will not teach us as well as an authentic experience, travelling is learning and learning is travelling.

As I imagine bursting through the atmosphere, holding my classmate’s hands, I cannot help but grin with excitement. The shimmering, shining colours folding into each other like origami paper between my fingers. The final blasts of purple sunlight toss the sky into a glistening display of rainbows, as we soar through our atmosphere, our dreams within reach. Can you see it? The glitter sprinkled universe, with its planets almost in line, closes its eyes, but we are still wide eyed and smiling. The secrets of our marbled Jupiter, locked away for centuries, could finally be unlocked if you simply place the keys in our safe hands. As we fly past the moon, my toes and fingers cannot help but tingle. Then we past Jupiter, finally! Its sixty moons circling it like vultures, Jupiter catches the sun and amazing rainbows poor out, like juice out of a bottle. Europa, the fourth largest moon, dashes past us and I pinch myself trying to work out whether I am asleep or awake. Space…

For all the reasons above and more, give us the key: your permission. I am Zoe, an excited 10 year old who NEEDS to go into space. Once again please hand over the key to our galaxy’s secrets; it would be fascinating to go into space.

From one very inspired young girl, Zoe

P.S. Don’t make us stop at the school’s walls.

Dear Marianne

I am Hayley the nine year-old girl that longs to be wondering the marvellous views of space. Let my curiosity fly free in space and sprinkle its self around the delightful universe we live in. If you say “no”, you are crushing and destroying my dreams: I believe I can go to space! Anyway what is so bad about space? It is coated with a black darkness and sprinkles of stars and eight wonderful planets that are waiting to be explored. If you say “yes”, then you are saying “yes” to my dreams.

I have been accepted on a secret mission to space but I just need your yes imagine 29 ordinary children exploring the wonders of space, which is just waiting to be explored. If you say no you are letting my dreams fade away. If you say no you are saying no to what is right. Also your yes is being waited for by my whole class.

As I spin my pen around this paper, feelings about space are crawling into my head and filling me with facts. But my wish is to see space with my own two eyes, eyes that are full of child-like wonder. Close your eyes and imagine a dark mysterious place that’s also known as space … open your door and let us explore, so please don’t ignore what we adore!

To summarise if you say yes it will feel like music to my ears, a poem placing tears on my face, a novel feeding my imagination, so if you say no I won’t go but if you say yes god bless.

The girl that believes she can go to space

Hayley

Dear Marianne,

Mysterious, unusual and unknown things are awaiting us in the darkness above, things that we do not know of, things that could give you the reputation of a lifetime. I am Isla, and along with my class, Cuba, I have been accepted on a very important mission to Neptune. But I can only embark on this mission with your permission. You are the key to my future. This is your chance to leap into the history books and become a respected and admired head teacher of London.

Space is a very important topic in our learning! Forget about the lousy smart boards and computers, telling us about space. There is something much better than that! Seeing it ourselves! That would build a great growth mind set! Isn’t that what you want for us? It would be crushing my dream and Cuba’s dream! I look up to you, if you say no, I wouldn’t just be sad, but you would just be a teacher at Brecknock that I walk past in the hallway, not the head teacher I look up to. You wouldn’t have to pay for it! It would be a small step for adults and a big step for kids! The planet we would like to go to is Neptune, because it is so innocent and blue. You are a cheerful head teacher, full of sunshine and rainbows.

I get it! It isn’t easy to send a class of Year Fives to space. It is totally up to you but please just consider it.

As I write this letter for your permission, I grin with excitement. Picture a world of complete darkness, the stars twinkling innocently, and the queen of the universe burning brightly. Have you ever wondered what happens to the sky at night? I have, well if you let us go we can find out!

For the reasons above, I am writing this letter to ask for your permission to go to Neptune.     I am an ambitious child and long to venture outside the walls of Brecknock.

I hope you take this into consideration. You could turn a dream into a reality.

From one very driven student,

Isla

PS: Article 28 states that it is our right to have an education that explores our talents and abilities.
