Captain Bridger Visits Year 5

Cuba class were very lucky today to have a visit from Captain Allister Bridger, the Chief Pilot with British Airways. It all came about after Nabil, entirely independently, wrote a letter to British Airways this summer wanting to know more about being a pilot and planes. They were so impressed with his letter (and his questions) that it was passed all the way up to Captain Bridger.

He contacted the school and wrote a reply to Nabil. Following that, Nabil drafted a further letter in which we invited Captain Bridger to come to school.

The children were very excited and Captain Bridger took them through a typical day in the life of a pilot before answering their questions – of which there were lots!

The children asked some really insightful questions and learnt lots from the session. At the end, Captain Bridger made Nabil’s day by presenting him with some British Airways Pilot Wings. He, and the other, will remember this afternoon for a very long time. By the end we had a whole class of children who want to be pilots! Good luck to them all, as Captain Bridger said, they will have to work very hard, but if they want it bad enough and put in the effort there is no reason why they can’t make it. We hope to fly with them soon!
