Lighthouse of Learning

People often ask us why we refer to Brecknock as ‘a lighthouse of learning’. This arises from our school building which was built in 1905. Arthur Conan Doyle, speaking through his alter ego, Sherlock Holmes, likened redbrick Victorian board schools to lighthouses, he said “Beacons of the future! Capsules with hundreds of bright little seeds in each, out of which will spring the wise, better England of the future.”

We believe that our enriched curriculum, centred around excellence in the teaching of core skills, and our focus on empowering children will indeed create a wise, better England – and World – of the future.
