Governors

The school governors are members of Brecknock’s Governing Body.

They have responsibility for raising school standards through their three core strategic functions of:

a. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
b. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

All minutes of governing body meetings are available on request.

My name is Richard Harrison and I am a Community Governor. I have been a governor at Brecknock since February 2014. I work at Regent High School, where I am the Director of Community Engagement. I am responsible for our work with primary schools, our partnerships with businesses, universities and arts organisations, and our marketing activities. I became a governor because I wanted to support Brecknock to become even more fantastic than it already is, and to help it build stronger links with secondary schools.

I have 3 children, 2 at Brecknock: Charlotte is in year 4 and Finn is in nursery. My youngest Lola will be coming in a couple of years! I stood for parent governor because I wanted to support our brilliant local school. I have experience of governance through my work and thought these skills might be transferable. I am a doctor at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I specialise in anaesthetics. (At work I make children go to sleep, at home I have less success). I have found being a governor interesting, occasionally challenging but ultimately rewarding. I would recommend it to any parent. No special skills are required. Common sense is most important.
