Programming Week – Minecraft Creative Challenge

During ‘Brecknock Programming Week’ we ran a ‘Minecraft Constructor’s Club’. Originally it was going to be 2 lunchtimes but so many children wanted to take part it ended up running everyday and into this week so that all the children could get the hour they needed. Using the iPads the challenge was be to build a house, building, statue or any kind of construction in creative mode. The most elaborate and innovative completed design would win a prize. In total, they had just over an hour so had to think about what they would be able to do in that time.

The children were amazing and came up with some brilliant ideas. It made the judging very difficult! We had floating houses, roller coasters, waterfalls, statues, churches, castles, palaces and farms. The level of detail some of the children went to was truly remarkable.

In the end a number were selected as highly commended and a winner chosen from each year group as well as an overall winner. They received their certificates and winners prizes in Tuesday’s assembly.

Below are some screen shots of the highly commended and winners efforts.

Well done to all the children who took part, there were over 100! We will be running a Minecraft club next year – watch this space!
