Jessica Souhami visits EYFS and KS1!

Brecknock had the privilege of welcoming Jessica Souhami into school today. Jessica has written and illustrated books for 21 years, and her texts are still used in classes today – we had been looking forward to her visit for a while!

She started her day in EYFS by reading her stories to Nursery and Reception children.  Children loved them, and sat wonderfully throughout her sessions.  Jessica commented on the excellent listening which Nursery and Reception children did, so they each got two stories!  Well done EYFS!

On to KS1, and Year 1, who have been learning all about Jessica’s story ‘No Dinner’, came into class as the old lady from the story which was very funny!  Jessica read Year 1 and Year 2 three stories, and talked about how she makes books as well as answering children’s questions.

Jersey in Year 2 were very lucky because Jessica worked with them all afternoon, teaching them how to make a ‘spread’, where words and pictures can go across two pages.  Children made their own traditional tales, mixing setting, characters and plots just like Jessica does!

They created stories such as ‘The Three Aliens’, ‘The Three Little Sharks’, ‘The Sand Queen’ and ‘Attack of the Dinosaurs’, which I am particularly excited about!

Thank you to all parents and children who came to Jessica’s book-signing after school – meeting the author of the book you are buying and having it signed is always a wonderful experience.  Jessica’s books will be available for children to borrow from school, so please don’t worry if you were not able to attend and really wanted to!

Tomorrow is just as exciting for KS2 children, because SF Said is coming to Brecknock!
