It’s Shocking!

This  term Year 2 are learning all about electricity in their IPC topic.

Together we had great fun playing with the plasma ball and learning about static electricity.

The children undertook an experiment to find out about the energy of a statically charged balloon. Both the children and teachers were surprised by the results… the charged balloon had enough energy to move a metal spoon and could even lift a pencil from the table!

Later that week they were given a pack, containing items to make a circuit. After being set the challenge of lighting the bulb, they excitedly set to work. There were squeals of excitement and sighs of frustration and they endeavored to succeed. Together, we make a circuit using our bodies, developing understanding of how electricity travels and the necessary components for it to work.

Towards the end of the term, children will be designing and making their own torches to demonstrate their learning.
