A fun rainy day out to Freightliners Farm

The Nursery children enjoyed a morning at the farm.  First we met and stroked Sophie the rabbit and Pippin, the guinea pig with ‘funky’ hair.  Dean, the farmer, then taught us the difference between boy and girl chickens.  We had a chance to stroke a variety of chickens including: a “Naked neck Transylvanian”, a giant  “Buff Orpington” and a chicken with blue skin.  The chickens had kindly laid us 10 eggs which we collected and brought back to Nursery.  The farmer gave us some corn food for the chickens, we threw it into their pen to say ‘thank you’ for our eggs.  We learnt that we can eat chickens, hopefully we won’t end up with a blue skinned chicken on our plates though.

Finally we visited the barn where we stroked a goat and her bouncy, fluffy little kid.  Next we looked at the sheep and talked about their wooly coats.  Can you remember what we use wool for? The cows were also living in the barn.  We looked at the cows and talked about the different things that we can make with milk.  What foods are made with milk?
